"If you want a better answer, ask a better question."
In practice: Take a moment before asking, to be clear in what you are asking of someone else. If they do not give you the answer you seek, pause, regroup, and refine your question to be a better question. Take responsibility for your questions, being partly responsible for influencing the quality of any answer you receive.
So, ask better questions!

In practice: Encourage and welcome constructive criticism from trusted sources. Most of us do not have a good mirror reflection of the areas we can improve upon. Have others in your life who are better than you in the things you want to improve upon.
So, start seeking counsel!

"While there are two simple ways to increase profit--increase revenue or decrease expenses--there are millions of ways to complicate it..."
In practice: Focus on the areas in your practice which have the most dramatic influence upon collection or expenses first. Remember, any areas where you can improve expenses converts 100% to reaching your bottom line profit. Collections, still have a "cost to deliver," thus a $20K reduction in expenses is far more valuable than a $20K increase in collections.
So, focus on improving your expenses!

"As a leader, it is important to clearly understand and communicate the difference between abdicating vs. delegating."
In practice: To those to whom you delegate, set the person up for success, not confusion. Clearly state the desired outcome, the time, the budget, and the tone of the project. Giving the responsibility of the project, without creating the boundaries, makes it confusing for both parties, and lowers the likelihood of satisfaction by both parties.
So, clearly state your expectations!

In practice: If you want a different outcome, you must use a different strategy than you have exercised in the past. Look for new strategies, ask others for their input. Ask yourself, if my best friend had this challenge, what would I encourage them to do?
