Is 75,000 Dollars Worth All This? Surfboard, Pajamas…What Are These People Thinking? Part ll

Alopeciahope:

After my audition I was able to meet some of the organizers and gained insight as to the details of the t-shirt sales. By this time it was 2:00pm on a Saturday afternoon. Most people I knew were on vacation and my order had to be turned in (with the money from the sale of the t-shirts) by 11:00pm that very night. My husband and I drove back home, attended a baby shower, sold t-shirts at the shower, came home and called everyone we knew to ask if they would be interested in buying a t-shirt, then drove back to Raleigh around 9pm. When we arrived back at Jillian’s NO one with the show could be found. We drove back home to think this through and decided to return back to Raleigh two hours later.

I had sold 35 t-shirts. I was able to meet Bob Winstead, the executive producer and asked him many questions about the show. Bob told me at that time that I was among the highest in sales at that point. My husband and I asked as many questions as we could think of. After speaking to Bob, we decided this would be a GREAT opportunity for me to learn more about making my business a successful business.

I already had my own business. I had started it after I was downsized from corporate America and knew I wanted to work from my home. The idea for my business had already been created and now I needed to know how to make it a success. I knew I needed to learn how to network and how to market. Bob mentioned that those chosen to make the final 16 or final 14 would have the opportunity to learn as much as they wanted. This would not be like the apprentice where people were “fired”. People would be suspended and still be able to participate in the learning process of the show. His plans were for us to create ONE business, market it, brand it, recruit for it, sale for it, and network with it, all with the end result of having a grand prize winner who would want to take the business we created and run with it. There was an option for the final winner to simply take $50,000 in cash as well. My goal became to make it to the final 16 so I could learn all I could to make my own business the ultimate success.

The game was on. I was determined to make it to the final 16!

Hi Harold,

This is a hard question and one I have give much thought to. I currently own my own business www.thewomenshop.com but know I am missing some of the business basics to make my business a success. I have done many things in my life but most left me unable to concentrate on my passion. In 2002 I was downsized from a large telecommunications company after 12 years as a project manager. At that time I did a LOT of soul searching. From that my personal search came "why can't I help others who are going through what I have and do live with". At the age of 16 I lost all of my hair. About three years later it mostly returned, and a year later most of it fell out again. I know there are many many other people out there like me with alopecia whether it is genetic, chemical, or physiological in cause the end result is the same.

As you can probably tell by now my passion is to help others cope with their hair loss. Hair loss is a life changing event. It is a journey. I offer solutions, help, hope, healing, and inspiration. As in any business, money is a necessary part of the puzzle to succeed. Therefore, if I win the show I would choose to take the money to make my business stronger, reach out to more people, help more people, and be more successful in all areas of my life.

Thanks for asking!!!

What a lovely reply. I just finished looking at your website. You seem to be a very special lady. I think you will be my favorite and I hope you win the money. Regardless, you are in good hands. The Host of your show can make money out of dirt. Get close to him. Bob Winstead recently shared your story with my wife. I can't tell you how touched she was. I used to work for Bob and he helped me start my own business when I thought there was no way I could. That's why I'm such a big fan of "Entrepreneurs". You and I have something in common. I own a Hair Salon. Maybe we can pass eachother referrals. When you work long enough with Bob, he will beat you to death, in a positive way, to use your resources. Let me know how I can help you.

Harold,
You hit the nail on the head when you said she is a special lady. She was like our mother hen, but not in a bad way. She is one of the most generous, genuine, kind-hearted person you will ever meet! Without her, I wouldn't be running my own business (www.keyconcierges.com & http://pickswicks.tripod.com) today. She is a great person and anyone would be stupid not to get to know her and remain friends with such a wonderful person. She is one the best people I have ever gotten to know and I know I am blessed to be associated with her. There was a reason we were brought to meet and I am grateful every day for that.
Thanks!
