Pomegranates are full of antioxidants and nutrients; they're good for your bones, brain, heart, lungs and teeth. Pomegranate juice also has amazing anti-cancer properties.

If you've been intimidated to juice these red beauties, consider that a thing of the past! Here are some super simple steps to getting you well on your way to quenching your pomegranate thirst!

Put on some protective clothing, like an apron, to protect you and your clothing from the red pomegranate juice. This juice can stain your clothing and the juicing process can be a bit messy.

Cover your counter tops with paper shopping bags or old dish towels. This will help to prevent the pomegranate juice from staining your counters. Some counter surfaces will become stained when pomegranate juice touches them, so use some caution.

Holding the pomegranate in your hand, use a heavy wooden spoon or other kitchen tool as a tapping device on the pomegranate. The idea is to completely tap the entire fruit so you loosen the seeds before opening.

Cut the pomegranate skin and peel open with your knife. You will do these quarter sections at a time. You don't want to cut completely through the fruit because this will cause you to lose precious juice and seeds.

Hold the cut pomegranate over a large glass bowl (be careful not to use plastic, it will stain) and pull out the seeds using your fingers. Allow the seeds to fall into the bowl. The seeds are in pods throughout the pomegranate so for our purposes here don't worry too much about removing every piece of the white pod, for your milk bag will catch those pieces. Another way to remove the seeds is to submerge the pomegranate pieces into a bowl full of water. The water does help to release the seeds, but it also reduces the seeds flavor by allowing the pomegranate juices to escapes through this process. So if you use this method use a small amount of water.

Once you've removed the seeds, add your bowl's contents to your food processor. Place the processor on pulse for a minute or two just to break up the seeds so they release their juice.

Pour the blended pomegranate seeds into your milk bag over the original deseeding bowl and squeeze the juice from the seed pulp. The seed fibers will remain in the milk bag. Continue to squeeze until no juice remains.

You can enjoy the juice straight up or mix the pomegranate juice with orange, apple or grape juice, or any other juice if desired. Pure pomegranate juice can taste a bit bitter; if this is the case add a small amount of Agave to taste.

Store remaining pomegranate juice in a glass container and refrigerate.

Complete with pre- & probiotics and digestive enzymes to ensure rapid nutrient absorption and healthy digestion.

What is cacao powder?

All chocolate comes from cacao, or cocoa, as it is more commonly known. Raw Organic Chocolate Powder is created by cold-pressing Raw Cacao Nibs into a cake separating the oil from the protein and fiber. The remaining dry 'cake-like' material is then cold-ground, fine-milled and sifted so that only the finest, most bio-available raw cacao particles filter through into the finished product. This powder is filled with delicate vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.

This smoothie contains some amazing fruits, including pineapples.
Pineapples are nutritionally packed members of the bromeliad family. This
delightful tropical fruit is high in the enzyme bromelain and the antioxidant
vitamin C, both of which play a major role in the body's healing process.

Papaya fruit is an excellent source of dietary fiber, folate,
vitamin A, C and E. It also contains small amounts of calcium, iron, riboflavin,
thiamine and niacin. Papaya is very rich in antioxidant nutrients, flavonoids
and carotenes, very high in vitamin C and A, and low in calories and sodium.

Oranges are our last ingredient - they have long been known
to be a rich source of healthy vitamin C, but now some California chemists have
discovered that the fruits have some other nutritious chemicals, too. Oranges
are rich in a compound called citrus limonoids, which have been proven to help
fight a number of varieties of cancer, including that of the skin, lung,
breast, stomach and colon.
</m:defjc></m:rmargin></m:lmargin></m:dispdef></m:smallfrac>

The Goji berry tastes somewhat like a cross between a cranberry and a cherry. This fruit has extraordinary healing properties that most people don't know about; it is considered the world's most nutrient-dense food and is known as the BEST anti-aging Super food available to humankind. For over 2,000 years the Goji has proven to improve many health conditions and cure ailments. Goji berries are some of the highest antioxidant-containing foods in the world. Goji berries typically contain 2-4 times the amount of antioxidants found in blueberries. Goji berries can be purchased here.

What is Coconut Water?

Coconut water is a refreshing natural drink with electrolytes (ionic mineral) that are similar to human plasma. It has 15 times the amount of potassium most sport and energy drinks sold at the local super markets have. And, unlike other beverages, it is completely compatible with the human body, in so much so, that it historically has been infused directly into the bloodstream. In fact, doctors have used coconut water successfully as an intravenous fluid for over 60 years.

Now you can see why I call this the Fountain of Youth Smoothie! Just imagine how thankful and good your body will feel after you've finished off the last sips of this smoothie! Don't get me wrong, this is not only good for you, it's beyond delicious! Who could ask for anything more! Coconuts can be purchase at your local health food store or Asian Market.

What is Maca?

Maca's reputation as a powerful strength and stamina enhancer as well as libido-enhancing food-herb stretches back into prehistory. Maca, like goji berries and ginseng, is a powerful adaptogen, which means it has the ability to balance and stabilize the body's systems (cardiovascular system, nervous system, musculature, lymphatic system, etc.). As an adaptogen, maca can provide more energy if it is needed, but if it is not, it will not overstimulate. Adaptogens also boost immunity and increase the body's overall vitality by 10-15% according to most studies. Rather than addressing a specific symptom, adaptogens are used to improve the overall adaptability of the whole body to diverse and challenging situations and stress. MACA IS AVAILABLE AT SUNFOODS.

I had the privilege of meeting and speaking with Joseph and Francis from Tribest when I was at the Raw Spirit Festival back in June of this year. Joseph gave me five fantastic reasons to be using a twin gear juicer verses a centrifugal juicer. The information that he shared with me was important so I wanted to make sure I shared it with you.

Sometimes juicers become like the exercise equipment we purchase with the best of intentions to use, but never do. So, no matter what type of juicer you currently have, Tribest is the only juicer I use in my own kitchen as well as The Splendor in The Raw kitchens, the most important thing is that you use your juicer! If you've got one tucked away under the cabinet somewhere PULL IT OUT, dust it off and use it!

I'm constantly asked by folks who want to get started on a healthier lifestyle where they should start or how they should start. My answers are always the same, juice, eat one big salad every day and eliminate all refined sugars and processed starches! You will be amazed at how fantastic you'll start to feel and look simply by doing these four things.

Can't do all four now? No problem! How about getting started with just one? Juice! Have just one quart of fresh delicious vegetable juice every morning and I'll guarantee you, in one week's time you'll be feeling really good and, who knows, maybe after two weeks or a month you'll be ready to add another of the four into your diet.

Pretty soon you'll be there! Just one step at a time gets you up the mountain - and, don't forget, I'm right there with you!

Have a Delicious Day!

Chef Tina Jo

What is Mangosteen Powder? Mangosteen Powder is a shining example of superfood purity and potency. Known as the "Queen of Fruits," mangosteen is a top antioxidant and anti-inflammatory and contains an impressive array of vitamins, minerals, bioflavanoids and tannins. But the most exciting aspect of mangosteen is a group of compounds called Xanthones (pronounced ZAN-thõnz) which are found in the rind of the fruit. Mangosteen has been used medicinally in South East Asia for centuries to treat a wide variety of health challenges (such as arthritis, eczema, digestive problems) and recent research has discovered that Xanthones are the key. MANGOSTEEN CAN BE FOUND AT SUNFOODS

Jody posted this amazing recipe in our recipe club for our members to enjoy. I found it so delicious and refreshing I thought it fitting to post it here for all of you to also enjoy. The originator of this juice is Rudolf Breuss and it is called Cancer Away! Rudolf's original version did not call for ice; however I found its addition very pleasing. Give it a try either way CANCER BE GONE!

Juice Cancer Away

1 beet
1 carrot
1 celery stick
1/2 potato
1 radish

Rudolf Breuss's, anticancer mixture has helped thousands of suffering people. This juice blend, during fasting, exerts a death blow on cancer. This was attested by over 24,000 patients who wrote him describing relief from their diseases. His patients were given small amounts of this juice over 42 days. A tea composed of nettle, St. John's wart, marigold, artemisi and monarda was also given. By "starving out" the cancer, Rudolf Breuss reported a 96% success rate for the thousands of patients he treated over 30 years of practice.
