CAN WE BREAK INTUITION DOWN INTO CATEGORIES?

Intuition is given many names these days. Some call it the sixth sense; others use terms such as psychic ability, psi, and intuitive wisdom. All these terms refer to a knowing with which we are born; a knowing based on psi (from the Greek word for soul) which refers to the ability of mind to connect with other minds and places. What some experts in the area of intuition have done is break down intuition a bit further.

Belleruth Naparstek in The Sixth Sense differentiates intuitive wisdom from the knowing you have which is based on your life experience or learned experience. In other words, if I am working with a patient and dealing with a problematic situation, a solution I may come up with that is rooted in my clinical experience and training is not really my intuition at work, but rather a reflection of all that I have learned. However, she points out that the feeling I have when an elevator door opens and I feel uncomfortable throughout my whole being is definitely my intuitive knowing speaking to me, warning me to take precautions. This is a more subtle, overall body experience. And, to go one step further, this sixth sense-knowing is actually different from the times we have a sudden psi pop of knowing – which comes “out of the blue.” For example, consider how many times, while driving your car or doing some task, you have had a sudden pop of information or an image which represented the answer to a problem you were working on but which you had not been able to solve? Or how many times have you heard words coming out of your mouth which surprised you? Or thoughts you have had which really took you by surprise? Yes, you are an intuitive being and you can learn to develop this ability.

If you have a story or two to share of your own intuition or sixth sense, we would love to hear from you. Please, take a moment to e-mail us your story.
