THE SIXTH SENSE COMES WITH THE TERRITORY

How many times can you recall when you were on the highway, and you suddenly had the sense that you were about to encounter a problem? Or, do you remember times when you found yourself thinking of a friend, relative, or colleague, and within moments, received a phone call, e-mail or visit from them? Or, how often have you awakened, thinking about a friend or family member and then bumped into or heard from them during the day? Mona Lisa Schulz, author of Awakening Intuition, is both an intuitive physician and researcher of neuroscience. She has written that we are born with an intuitive network. This network includes our brain, body, memories and dreams. All of this, she emphasizes is what feeds our intuitive knowing about what is and will be taking place in our lives. And, when we learn to listen to our dreams, body sensations, aches, pains and our memories, we realize how intuitively empowered we really are.

One of the stories in Touched by the Extraordinary describes how one mom began to feel uncomfortable about the safety of her daughter and grand-daughters. Guided by her intuition, she telephoned her daughter, Elisa,* at the very moment the young woman realized she had made a mistake regarding a man she had allowed into her home. The man had knocked on Elisa’s door, explaining that he needed to call for help because he had experienced car problems in the snow. Upon discovering that he was inebriated, Elisa knew there was a problem and told her own two young daughters to quickly go to their rooms. It was then that her mom had called. Responding with a simple yes to the question about whether she needed the police to come, Elisa was able to have her mom call for help. Fortunately, police did come and the man was removed from their home. But, what if the Elisa’s mom had not listened to her inner wisdom? There could have definitely been a real problem.
