Update November 2016
This search was started on 27 June 2006 and ABANDONED on 30 April 2013 when the person for whom this search had been undertaken passed away. on 27 November 2016 I received the following email:
I hope you, Sylvia and your family are doing well!
A number of years ago, I was helping Herbert Lindow look for his cousins, Bruno Goldschmidt (Brian Goldsmith) and his brother Salomon Robert Goldschmidt (Goldsmith) both born in Hamburg and taken to England via Kindertransport. You responded to my posting on JewishGen, did a little research for me an posted the search on your Search and Unite page. When Herbert passed away in 2011 you marked the search as abandoned.
Well, I kept looking for descendants of the Goldschmidt/Goldsmith brothers. I just had this feeling that even though Herbert was no longer here, his cousins descendants needed to know that Herbert had been looking for them. Several years ago I able to confirm that Bruno/Brian had passed away in Australia. He was never married and had no children.
To make a long story short, Friday evening I spoke with Ian Goldsmith the son of Salomon Robert, so I am happy to report that we have come full circle. Ian and I have been emailing information back and forth and with the help of Ancestry.com we are working together on filling out his family tree. There are a lot of records from the Hamburg Archives on Ancestry, but they are not as current as some of his needs are, so I am sure he will be contacting the Archives in Hamburg for additional records.Well, I kept looking for descendants of the Goldschmidt/Goldsmith brothers. Just thought you'd like to know about this success story, as you played a part in it too!!
Here the original posting:
We are NO LONGER searching for information on Brian GOLDSMITH, born Bruno GOLDSCHMIDT
All we know is:
Bruno GOLDSCHMIDT was born on 24 Nov. 1926 in Hamburg, Germany. Bruno and his brother, Solomon Robert GOLDSCHMIDT made their way to England on one of the first Kindertransports (2nd December, 1938).
Bruno Goldschmidt changed his name to Brian Goldsmith. He joined the British Army in May 1944, His army number was 14494195 and he served with the R.A.S.C. He became a Naturalized British Citizen in 1947. It is possible that Brian Goldsmith may have emigrated to Israel, Kenya or Uganda.
He lived at many addresses prior to military service: Clapton (London E.5), Hackney (London E.8), Wellingborough and Northampton. The last address we have found for him (after being demobbed from the army) was 3 Kensington Place, Brighton, Sussex.
Apart from his brother, Robert, the only other relative we have learned about was a cousin, Mrs.LINDHEIMER of Boston, Massachusetts. We know nothing about this lady, except that she made contact with the boys late in 1945 and they replied to her. We do not have her personal name or address.
Do you recognize any of this?
Can you guide us in any way?
If you have no information, do you know of anyone else, anywhere, where we can ask?
